How it works

Upload a PDF and the tool extracts all readable text from every page using PDF.js. Download the extracted content as a .txt file. Works best with text-based PDFs (not scanned images).

Why use this tool?

Extract text from PDFs for editing, research, data analysis, or copying content into another document. Saves hours of manual typing compared to rewriting PDF content from scratch.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does it work on scanned PDFs?
No. Scanned PDFs are images of text, not actual text. This tool extracts embedded text from digitally-created PDFs. For scanned documents, you need OCR (Optical Character Recognition) software.
Will the extracted text preserve formatting?
Paragraph breaks are preserved but complex layouts (columns, tables, sidebars) may not extract in reading order. The output is plain text — headings and styling are not preserved.
What encoding is used for the output?
The text is output as UTF-8, which supports all languages including those with non-Latin characters (Arabic, Chinese, Hindi, etc.).
Is this free?
Yes, completely free. Text is extracted locally in your browser.
